چکیده

A superhydrophobic and anti-icing surface was prepared by consecutive immersion in boiling water and sputtering of polytetrafluoroethylene on the surface of an aluminium alloy substrate. The immersion time in boiling water plays an important role on the surface morphology and water repellency of the deposited RF-sputtered Teflon coating. The Teflon-like coating deposited on a rough surface achieved with five-minute immersion in boiling water, provided a high static contact angle (~164 o) and low contact angle hysteresis (~4 o). Study of its wettability at low temperature showed that the superhydrophobic surface becomes rather hydrophobic at supercool temperatures. However, these results also showed a delayed freezing time of water droplets on its surface.

Anti-icing superhydrophobic coatings.

We use nanoparticle-polymer composites to demonstrate the anti-icing capability of superhydrophobic surfaces and report direct experimental evidence that such surfaces are able to prevent ice formation upon impact of supercooled water both in laboratory conditions and in natural environments. We find that the anti-icing capability of these composites depends not only on their superhydrophobicit...

Anti-icing properties of a superhydrophobic surface in a salt environment: an unexpected increase in freezing delay times for weak brine droplets.

Superhydrophobic coatings on the aluminum alloy were fabricated by intensive nanosecond pulsed laser treatment and chemical surface hydrophobization, which are chemically stable in contact with 0.5 M NaCl aqueous solutions and mechanically durable against stresses arising in the repetitive freezing/thawing of brine. The statistics of the crystallization of ensembles of sessile supercooled dropl...

Bioinspired, roughness-induced, water and oil super-philic and super-phobic coatings prepared by adaptable layer-by-layer technique

Coatings with specific surface wetting properties are of interest for anti-fouling, anti-fogging, anti-icing, self-cleaning, anti-smudge, and oil-water separation applications. Many previous bioinspired surfaces are of limited use due to a lack of mechanical durability. Here, a layer-by-layer technique is utilized to create coatings with four combinations of water and oil repellency and affinit...

Liquid-infused nanostructured surfaces with extreme anti-ice and anti-frost performance.

Ice-repellent coatings can have significant impact on global energy savings and improving safety in many infrastructures, transportation, and cooling systems. Recent efforts for developing ice-phobic surfaces have been mostly devoted to utilizing lotus-leaf-inspired superhydrophobic surfaces, yet these surfaces fail in high-humidity conditions due to water condensation and frost formation and e...

Hydrophobic durability characteristics of butterfly wing surface after freezing cycles towards the design of nature inspired anti-icing surfaces

The hydrophobicity and anti-icing performance of the surfaces of some artificial hydrophobic coatings degraded after several icing and de-icing cycles. In this paper, the frost formation on the surfaces of butterfly wings from ten different species was observed, and the contact angles were measured after 0 to 6 frosting/defrosting cycles. The results show that no obvious changes in contact angl...
